We are proud to announce that Boris Malagurski has officially begun filming his newest feature-length documentary, Serbia: A Mythical Exploration. Production is now underway, with the crew filming in key mythological, historical, and natural sites across Serbia — including its most controversial region, Kosovo.

Filming began in Serbia’s province of Kosovo despite a formal ban on Malagurski’s entry issued by then‑Kosovo Prime Minister Ramush Haradinaj, which has since been extended under current PM Albin Kurti. Undeterred, the Malagurski team managed to evade all official obstacles, filming covertly in the breakaway province, even at Gazimestan, where there are the strictest bans on any kind of filming. The crew was also subjected to verbal attacks and threats by local Albanians attempting to obstruct coverage of a destroyed Serbian Orthodox Church — yet every intended shot was captured. In the course of filming, the team discovered an unplanned, deeply emotional story that touched their hearts, giving hope that all is not lost when it comes to Serbia’s presence in Kosovo.

Beyond Kosovo, filming has moved to many other legendary locations: the Uvac gorge, Golubac Fortress, Krupajsko Vrelo, and various sites steeped in Serbia’s rich mythology and folklore.

What the film is about:
Serbia: A Mythical Exploration seeks to unveil the rich tapestry of Serbian history, myths, and cultural influences, painting a vivid picture of a unique lifestyle. The narrative weaves together ancient tales — from river fairies connected to Danube fortresses and cities — to the global fascination with vampires, grounded in Serbian folklore. The film will showcase architectural marvels and monasteries, traditional life, warm hospitality, and the natural beauty of the country. Legendary heroes such as Marko Kraljević will be honored, valor preserved in myth, and cultural authenticity celebrated in every frame.

Why this film matters now:
In a time when many stories are forgotten or distorted, Serbia: A Mythical Exploration restores voice to forgotten narratives. It does not only entertain — it educates. It revives values of tradition, courage, faith, identity. It is about more than what happened; it is about what we choose to remember.

Funding & support call:
Despite the film’s cultural importance, the Film Center of Serbia has refused funding for Serbia: A Mythical Exploration — not once, but twice. We believe the state doesn’t yet fully understand the importance of promoting Serbia’s heritage and mythos to global audiences. But the people do. And the people are standing behind this film. We invite you to join us. Every donation, however small, becomes a part of something greater. Every contributor will become part of the film itself — part of preserving myths, part of keeping alive the stories that define us.
